Controlling the Weather?

Come to Me Deep soul weariness:  We all experience it, though in different ways and for different reasons. Sometimes we can point to a significant factor, but often we can’t. Our weariness results from the cumulative, multilayered intersections of life’s complexities, bodily frailties, emotional heartbreaks, and the consequences of sin. It surpasses understanding.  The simplicity of Jesus’s promise is both striking and refreshing. Jesus doesn’t offer us a four-fold path to peace-giving enlightenment, like the Buddha did. He doesn’t give us five pillars of peace through submission as Islam does. Nor does he give us “10 Ways to Relieve Your Weariness,” which we pragmatic, self-help-oriented 21st century Americans are so drawn to. On our farm in Pennsylvania there were cherry trees which were attacked by little parasites of some sort. A parasite would get into a little branch, pierce the bark and exude a gum. Then the branch would get a knot on it and bend. All over the trees were those little bent places with gummy knots. After two or three years, those cherry trees would not bloom. If they did, the blooms usually dropped early and the cherries did not come to fruition. If the blooms did not drop early, the cherries would be flat and undeveloped or only red on one side. My father was not too interested in fruit. He was interested in cattle, horses and grain. If my father had known how he could have protected those trees before they got into that wretched condition and properly sprayed or treated them, he could have gotten rid of the worms and bugs and saved the trees and fruit. we all have them. giants in our lives.  those things that are like mountains and prevent us from being who God intended us to be when we surrender to Him.  but for some reason, we just can't face those giants.  we pretend they are not there, we take detours when we see them coming, or we feign ignorance when someone mentions them - but no matter how we try, they will always be there and you will always be in their shadow until you face them.  head on.   David did that.  he faced a huge giant - Goliath.  David only had a slingshot, a few pebbles and FAITH.  Goliath had the armour and the whole army behind him!  David had ridicule and laughter - no one thought he could do anything but fail.  yet he did not fail.  he triumphed over the giant at that stage.
